Crimetown: The Story of the Mafia and the Mayor
About This Tour
There was New York, Chicago, and then there was this little neighborhood, Federal Hill in Providence. It was the home base of the third largest La Cosa Nostra in the country, led by Raymond Patriarca, the mob boss of the New England mafia. Providence is basically a city of two hills with a river running down the middle of it. The one side, Federal Hill, was Patriarca’s domain. The other side, College Hill, is where all the doctors, lawyers, and professionals live. Sitting between these two hills is City Hall and the Mayor. In the second half of the twentieth century, Buddy Cianci was right in the middle of the struggle for the soul of this city. Buddy wanted to clean up the city, but would Buddy change the city or would the city change Buddy? Join us for the tale of two men who ruled this city, and ended up in “federally funded gated communities”. We will tell their stories, as we travel the streets, see the sights, and stop for lunch to taste the foods they loved!
